During a question and answer session in St. Charles, IL. with visionary Mirjana, a pilgrim who had once stayed at Mirjana's house while on a Medjugorje pilgrimage asked Mirjana a question about a pair of shoes belonging to John Paul that are in her house. Below is the exact reply given by Mirjana's translator.
"I am the only one of 6 visionaries who was lucky enough, had the honor, to encounter Pope John Paul II. You can imagine how the other 5 are jealous of me. [laughter] Jakov always says, “Oh, yea, you have been with Pope.”
We all deeply mourn the loss of Fr. Slavko Barbaric. He has been a great inspiration to millions of pilgrims. Rest in peace Father, you will surely be missed! You are in our prayers always.

Every Friday Father Slavko faithfully lead pilgrims to the top of Cross Mountain, to celebrate The Way of the Cross. On Friday, November 24, 2000, it seemed to be no different, as some 70 pilgrims joined in for this weekly event. However this day would be different, effecting the emotions of millions of pilgrims around the world and leaving Medjugorje in a state of shock.
Don Gabriele Amorth is an exorcist in the diocese of Rome and the president of honour of the Association of Exorcists that he founded in 1990, and of which he was president until the year 2000. During his stay at Medjugorje in July 2002, he gave an interview to Fr. Dario Dodig.
Fr. Dario Dodig: Don Gabriele, you are exorcist in the diocese of Rome?
Don Gabriele Amorth: I am an exorcist in Rome and president of honour of the Association of Exorcists, which I founded. In the year 2000, we celebrated its 10th anniversary. I was 75 years old and I asked someone else to take over this duty. When Bishops are 75, they are retired, so I did the same!
Don Gabriele, would you be so kind as to tell us what is exorcism?
Exorcism is a public prayer of the Church done with the authority of the Church, because it is done by a priest named by the Bishop; it is a prayer for liberation from the demon, from the evil influence of the demon or of the evil provoked by the demon.
